Facilities


Grounds 

The hostel is on 1 hectare of grounds.  The grounds are planted with a small orchard, a wooded area and fruit trees. There is a  large grass area which is used by guests for ball games. Guests are free to use all of the grounds for a picnic, or games or just to sit around.

 

Reception

Reception is normally open from 8.30 am to 1pm and from 3.30pm to 10pm every day. Guests check in and collect their room keys at the reception desk. Guests should return the keys to the desk when checking out.  Check out time is 10am.                                                                          
There is a selection of guide books, bus and rail timetables, maps and notices of local events on display on the notice boards.

  • order a taxi (free)
  • book a hostel (€1)

Internet Access
There is no internet access in the hostel. The public library in Sixmilebridge has free access.


 

Self-catering kitchen.
The self-catering kitchen is for guests’ use. Opening hours are 5am to 12 midday and 3.30pm to 10.30pm. The kitchen has:

  • an electric oven
  • 2 sets of 4 cooking rings
  • a large fridge
  • a microwave
  • 2 kettles
  • 2 toasters
  • coffee maker
  • pots and pans
  • tea and coffee pots
  • delft, cutlery and glassware for approximately 30 people    

There are tables and chairs for 22.  The kitchen is close to the courtyard where there are tables and chairs for another 16.  A recycling system is in place in the kitchen, where a green bin is used for all recyclables.  Washing-up liquid and cleaning cloths are provided.  We appreciate it when users of the kitchen wash, dry and put away any item used, so that its available for the next guest’s use.  Guests leave behind camping gas, food, laundry detergent and storage boxes. These are stored in the kitchen and are available for other guests to use and take if they wish.

 

Courtyard
The courtyard is the heart of the hostel. It is surrounded on 4 sides by the hostel buildings. Trees and flowers and lavender are planted.  A patio area faces  south-west and catches the sun in the afternoon. The patio is furnished with  tables, chairs and a gas heater.  


 

Common room
The common room is a large (8m x 5.5m), high room. Facilities provided are:                                                    

  • a stove for  cold evenings
  • armchairs
  • coffee tables
  • a writing/games table
  • TV  - the TV is connected to Sky but has no DVD or video player
  • table football
  • board games
  • a CD player/karaoke machine

The common room will seat about 30 people and has been used by different groups for relaxation,  prayer meetings,  talks and classes. It is also useful as a place to sit and meet before going into the restaurant.


Sitting room
This is a small room with seating for 8 people. It has a TV with video player. Guests generally use this room when the common room is full or too noisy.

 

Disabled bedroom with ensuite facilities.
This room is on the ground floor with access suitable for a person on a wheel chair. The room is designed for 1 disabled person and 1 helper. The ensuite is suitable for wheelchair use, except the bath. Use of the bath will require  an assistant.


Laundry
The hostel laundry is available for guests’ use from 3.30pm to 8pm.  The cost is €12 to wash & dry a load or €6  for a wash and €6 for a dry. The price includes detergent. There is also an iron and ironing board in the laundry room. Guests wishing to use the laundry should first come to reception and pay the fee.  We have an outside clothes line which guests are welcome to use.  We also have a small drying room where guests can hang damp clothes or shoes  overnight.


Left Luggage Store
We will hold luggage for guests for a short period, free of charge. This is useful for cyclists who can leave their bike box on their first day of their holiday and pick it up on their last day.


Post
We will hold post for guests. 


Lost and Found
We will hold property left behind by guests, for 1 week.  We will post it home if postage is paid for.


Bicycle rental
We no longer rent bicycles. Two companies who rent out bikes are:
Cycleworld in Limerick. They deliver the bikes to the hostel and pick them up when they are returned.

Car parking
There is a large off-street car park in front of the hostel.  It is free and safe.


Camping
Camping is not allowed on the hostel grounds.


French & German spoken
French is ok, learned in school and in France. German is basic, learned in the Goethe Institut.
